Description
MPE-PAR and MPS-PAR sensors have been optimized for integration into autonomous profiling floats and gliders, and feature low mass and low power consumption. They combine the large dynamic range (9 orders of magnitude) and excellent signal-to-noise ratio of Biospherical Instruments’ (BSI) microradiometer technology with the proven performance and ruggedness of BSI’s line of Q-Series PAR sensors. The MPE-PAR features an acrylic irradiance collector with a cosine-response while the MPS-PAR has a spherical collector made of solid Teflon® with a diameter of 1.9 cm (3/4”). The MLS-PAR is similar to the MPS-PAR but is optimized for laboratory use and is available with a spherical collector with a diameter of 1.3 cm (1/2”) or 1.9 cm (3/4”) and utilizes a long light pipe. The smaller collector is suitable for measuring scalar irradiance in vials, shallow water and incubators. All sensors are rated for use in water to a depth of up to 2,000 meters and provide digital output, allowing simplified integration with other systems. The PAR spectral response is shaped by a combination of absorbing glass and custom dichroic filters for accurately covering the PAR spectral region with a flat quantum response while blocking unwanted out-of-band radiation. It is available in a standard form factor or custom OEM configurations for integration into gliders and Argo profiling floats, with low power consumption for extended missions on lighter platforms. Microradiometer technology allows configurations that measure beyond the PAR band, with 10 nm wavebands available from 395 to 1000 nm.
